Does NMN Help You Sleep? What Human Trials Show

Separate sleep quality, daytime drowsiness and personal observations when reading the preliminary human evidence on NMN and sleep.

NMN has preliminary human sleep findings, but the available trials do not establish it as a reliable sleep aid or a treatment for insomnia. Some studies in older adults report favorable questionnaire results; others show improvements over time without a clear sleep-quality advantage attributable to NMN. Better sleep, less daytime drowsiness and a change in blood NAD are different outcomes. Read each claim against the outcome actually measured.

What did the NMN sleep trials find?

The findings are mixed, and the details are more useful than a simple “works” or “doesn't work.” The two randomized studies below lasted 12 weeks and enrolled older adults. Neither tested Yesnap NMN Daily.

Study Sleep-related finding Important limit
2022: 108 older Japanese adults, four morning/afternoon NMN or placebo groups No significant group-by-time interaction for sleep quality on the PSQI questionnaire. Drowsiness improved from baseline in both afternoon groups. A group's before-and-after improvement is not automatically an NMN-specific benefit.
2024: 60 older adults randomized to NMN or placebo Favorable global PSQI and daytime-dysfunction scores were reported relative to placebo at 12 weeks. Sleep was a secondary outcome; participants were not specifically selected for sleep difficulties.

The 2022 trial highlighted favorable signals in the afternoon NMN group, but its full results also describe placebo improvements and the need for objective sleep measures. A large change within one group does not by itself prove that the ingredient caused that change.

The 2024 trial provides a positive sleep signal worth studying further. Its primary stepping-test outcome did not differ significantly between groups. The authors explicitly say sleep effectiveness needs validation in participants with sleep difficulties. The study was funded by Meiji Holdings, and three authors were company employees.

Neither trial establishes a universal benefit across ages, an insomnia treatment, or how an individual multi-ingredient product will affect you. Research schedules and amounts are not personal product directions.

Does less daytime drowsiness mean better nighttime sleep?

Not necessarily. They are related experiences, but they are not interchangeable measurements. The 2022 trial used a fatigue questionnaire for drowsiness and a separate sleep-quality questionnaire. The 2024 study also reported specific questionnaire components rather than demonstrating every possible sleep outcome. “I feel less sleepy” does not tell us whether someone fell asleep faster, woke less often or spent longer asleep.

Our NMN timing guide addresses morning-versus-evening use. This article adds a different task: separating the sleep claim, the comparison with placebo and the observation you want to discuss with a healthcare professional.

Turn a sleep claim into a specific observation

Record the night and the following day separately, instead of using one “energy” score for everything. This original claim-to-note map helps organize a conversation. It is not a diagnostic test or a way to prove a supplement caused a change.

If the claim is… Record… Keep separate…
“I fall asleep more easily” Bedtime and estimated time to fall asleep Whether your bedtime or evening routine changed
“I sleep through” Remembered awakenings and time awake Naps, alcohol, caffeine and other changes
“I wake refreshed” Morning impression and wake-up time Daytime sleepiness, recorded later
“I need less sleep” Actual sleep opportunity and daytime difficulties Feeling alert versus whether you are getting adequate sleep
NMN sleep observation map separating falling asleep, awakenings, morning rest and daytime sleepiness
Describe the specific experience before attributing it to NMN. The same observation map is provided in text above.

NHLBI recommends a sleep diary for one to two weeks before a sleep-related appointment. It suggests recording sleep, waking, naps, daytime sleepiness, caffeine or alcohol and exercise. Add the names of medicines and supplements you use for the conversation; do not change prescribed treatment to test a supplement hypothesis.

What should you do with a personal sleep change?

Take the experience seriously while keeping the cause uncertain. A good night after starting NMN does not establish a product effect. Worse sleep or unusual sleepiness is also a reason to review what changed rather than assume it is a necessary adjustment period. A diary helps describe the sequence; it cannot replace a controlled trial.

If inadequate sleep affects daily activities, talk with your healthcare provider. Mention frequent loud snoring or waking gasping. Do not postpone assessment while waiting for a supplement to work.

If you are separately considering an NMN product, review NMN Daily's current product information and complete label. This is a formula-checking step, not a recommendation to use it for sleep.

Keep the next step tied to your actual concern

Use the evidence to ask a clearer question, not to assign NMN a sleep-aid role it has not established. If the concern is falling asleep, repeated waking or daytime sleepiness, bring that specific pattern to your provider. Product selection should follow a separate assessment of the full formula and your circumstances.

Frequently asked questions

Is NMN a proven sleep aid?

The trials discussed here provide preliminary, mixed sleep-related findings in older adults. They do not establish NMN as a reliable sleep aid or insomnia treatment.

Does afternoon use guarantee better sleep?

No. The 2022 trial does not establish a universal timing rule. Follow appropriate product instructions and discuss sleep concerns with a healthcare professional.

Does feeling better prove NMN caused it?

No. Record the change and its context. A personal sequence is useful information but does not isolate the cause.

Should I wait 12 weeks before seeking help?

No. A study's duration is not a recommended waiting period. Seek advice when sleep problems affect daily life.
